Extend the color and movement of a FlowStone design into selected walls, panels, shelving, and fireplace-adjacent surfaces. Every application is evaluated for substrate suitability, heat exposure, manufacturer clearances, and intended use before it is approved.
One Design Language Across the Room
A countertop does not have to be the only surface carrying the room's color and movement. Selected panels, shelving, and architectural details can repeat or reinterpret the design, helping separate parts of the room feel connected.
FlowStone evaluates every vertical or fireplace-adjacent application individually. The surface must be compatible with the substrate, orientation, heat exposure, cleaning requirements, and manufacturer specifications.
Best for: Homeowners who want to coordinate countertops with selected feature panels or architectural surfaces without forcing the same material onto areas where it does not belong.
Where a FlowStone Feature Surface May Work
Potentially suitable
- Decorative wall panels located away from direct heat and flame
- Off-site fabricated architectural panels
- Shelving surfaces within the approved material use
- Vertical accents coordinated with countertops
- Fireplace-adjacent decorative areas outside required clearance and noncombustible zones
- Stable, dry substrates prepared for dependable adhesion
- Electric-fireplace features only when the fireplace manufacturer's instructions and measured conditions permit the material
Not suitable without specific documentation and approval
- Fireboxes, hearths, or areas exposed to flame, embers, or extreme heat
- Surfaces directly behind an open fire
- Required noncombustible or fire-rated areas
- Locations exceeding the published temperature limits of the resin or topcoat
- Gas, wood-burning, or factory-built fireplace surrounds without the model's installation and clearance requirements
- Surfaces requiring a verified flame-spread or fire-resistance rating that the complete system does not have
- Unstable, damp, contaminated, or deteriorated walls and substrates
- Exterior surfaces unless the complete system is approved for exterior exposure
A photograph is not enough to approve a fireplace application. FlowStone must review the fireplace type and model, manufacturer instructions, clearances, substrate, and site conditions before recommending the material.
Feature Surfaces Designed to Belong Together
- Decorative panels coordinated with an approved countertop design
- Complementary rather than necessarily identical color and movement
- Physical samples reviewed in the room
- Designs adjusted for vertical orientation and viewing distance
- Off-site fabrication when it provides better control and easier installation
- Edges, joints, panel breaks, and transitions planned before fabrication
- Selected shelving or architectural surfaces when technically appropriate
Repeat the Design or Create a Related Variation
A feature surface can repeat the countertop palette or use a quieter related design. The goal is to create a visual relationship without making every surface compete for attention.
Coordinated palette. Repeat colors drawn from the countertop, cabinetry, flooring, or furnishings.
Simplified movement. Reduce the amount of veining for larger vertical surfaces.
Feature movement. Create a focused composition for a smaller architectural panel.
Panel planning. Use intentional joints, edges, and transitions where separate sections meet.
Lighting response. Review how natural, overhead, and accent lighting affect the color and sheen.
Countertop relationship. Decide which surface should lead and which should support the room.
You review a physical sample in the room before approving the design.
Fireplace Applications Require More Than a Visual Review
The appearance of a fireplace surround does not determine whether resin is suitable. Before considering a fireplace-adjacent application, FlowStone reviews the fireplace fuel type, manufacturer, model, installation instructions, required clearances, noncombustible zones, expected temperatures, substrate, ventilation, and applicable code requirements.
If the application requires a noncombustible or fire-rated material and the complete FlowStone system does not have the required documentation, resin will not be used in that area.
Stone, tile, metal, or another approved noncombustible material may be used around the heat-restricted portion while a coordinated FlowStone panel is placed farther from the opening.
From Architectural Idea to Approved Application
- 01
Share the Surface and Heat Source
Send photographs, approximate measurements, and details about the wall, panel, shelving, or fireplace. For fireplace projects, include the fuel type, manufacturer, model number, and installation manual when available.
- 02
Confirm Technical Suitability
We review the substrate, orientation, proximity to heat, required clearances, manufacturer instructions, intended use, access, and installation conditions before developing the proposal.
- 03
Develop and Approve the Design
FlowStone coordinates the color, movement, panel layout, joints, and finish with the room and any related countertop. You review a physical sample before approving the design.
- 04
Prepare or Fabricate
Depending on the project, the substrate is prepared in place or decorative panels are fabricated and finished off-site. Panel dimensions, edges, joints, and attachment details are planned before installation.
- 05
Install and Walk Through
Approved surfaces are installed or finished according to the project plan. We review cleaning, care, heat limitations, and the conditions that must be maintained around the finished surface.

Off-site fabrication. Decorative feature panels are often better suited to off-site fabrication. This allows the surface to be prepared, designed, finished, and cured under controlled conditions before installation. Installation time depends on the number of panels, dimensions, weight, access, joints, attachment method, and site conditions.
What Affects the Schedule?
- Total surface area and number of panels
- On-site application versus off-site fabrication
- Substrate preparation and repair
- Panel dimensions, weight, edges, and joints
- Fireplace documentation and technical review
- Distance from heat-producing components
- Number of colors and design layers
- Access and installation requirements
- Cure time and return visits
- Coordination with fireplace, electrical, framing, tile, or other professionals
You will receive a written project schedule after the application has been evaluated and approved.
Caring for Decorative FlowStone Surfaces
- Dust with a soft cloth
- Clean with mild soap and a soft cloth when needed
- Avoid abrasive cleaners and aggressive scrubbing pads
- Do not expose the surface to direct flame, embers, or heat beyond its approved use
- Do not place candles, burners, or other heat sources directly against the surface
- Contact FlowStone before attempting to repair scratches or damage
Localized wear or damage may be repairable, depending on the location, substrate, panel construction, and extent of the damage.
What should I budget?
Individually Quoted
Feature walls, decorative panels, shelving, and fireplace-adjacent surfaces vary substantially in size, substrate, orientation, heat exposure, panel construction, access, and design complexity.
Send photographs, approximate measurements, and information about the intended application for an initial review. Fireplace inquiries should include the fireplace manufacturer, model, fuel type, and installation instructions when available.
After the technical review and design consultation, you will receive a fixed proposal before approving the project.
